When Healthy Foods Don’t Feel Healthy: Understanding Why Nutritious Foods Can Still Trigger Symptoms

“I eat healthy… so why do I still have eczema?” This is one of the most common questions I hear in my practice.
Many people who come to see me have already made significant changes to their diet. They’ve cut out processed foods, removed gluten and dairy, increased their vegetables, added nuts and seeds for healthy fats, started making smoothies, and chosen whole, nutrient-dense foods. Yet despite all of their efforts, they’re still dealing with symptoms like eczema, digestive discomfort, or brain fog. How can this be?
The answer is that a food can be nutritious and still not agree with your body.
One of the biggest misconceptions about nutrition is that if a food is healthy, it must be healthy for everyone. While nutritious foods provide important vitamins, minerals, and other beneficial nutrients, they aren’t necessarily the right fit for every individual.
Each person’s body is unique. A food that helps one person thrive may not be well tolerated by another. In my practice, I often see clients whose symptoms seem to be linked to foods they never would have suspected. Nuts and seeds, for example, are excellent sources of healthy fats and nutrients, yet I’ve seen them associated with eczema flares in some individuals. Eggs, tomatoes, beans, and other wholesome foods can also be
problematic for certain people.
This doesn’t mean these foods are “bad, ” nor does it mean everyone should avoid them. In fact, for many people they’re excellent choices.
The important question isn’t “Is this food healthy?”
It’s “Is this food working well for my body?”
That’s one of the principles behind BioEnergetic Intolerance Elimination (BIE). Rather than assuming the same foods are right for everyone, we take an individualized approach to better understand how your body responds to different foods and substances. The goal is to identify what your body tolerates well - and what may be contributing to your symptoms.
One of my favourite parts of this work is helping people stop feeling guilty. So many clients think they’re doing something wrong because they’re still struggling despite eating “perfectly.” Often, they’re not doing anything wrong at all. They simply haven’t discovered which foods their own body responds to best.
Healthy eating isn’t about following someone else’s list of “superfoods.” It’s about finding the foods that help you feel your healthiest.
If you’ve been making healthy choices but still aren’t seeing the results you hoped for, perhaps it’s time to stop asking whether your diet is healthy enough - and start asking whether it’s the right diet for you.
Ready to learn what your body is telling you?
If you’ve been doing all the “right” things but are still struggling with symptoms, you don’t have to keep guessing. At Inspired Wellness, I work with clients to better understand how their unique bodies respond to different foods and environmental substances using BioEnergetic Intolerance Elimination (BIE). Together, we’ll explore whether hidden intolerances may be contributing to your symptoms and develop a personalized plan to help you feel your best.
Your body is unique. Your approach to health should be too.
