March is Endometriosis Awareness Month. Raising awareness of endometriosis is so important because 1 in 10 individuals of reproductive age are affected by this condition, and on average, it takes 7-10 years to receive a diagnosis.
What is Endometriosis?
Endometriosis is a chronic inflammatory condition where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus (known as the endometrium) grows outside the uterus. It can affect many organ systems in the body and is not limited to the reproductive system.
Common Symptoms of Endometriosis?
Pelvic and back pain
Painful periods
Abnormal menstrual bleeding
Pain with bowel movements
Irregular cycles and abnormal menstrual bleeding
Painful intercourse
Digestive disturbances (nausea, constipation, diarrhea)
Urinary urgency
Bloating
Fatigue
Infertility
Treatments:
While there is currently no known cure for endometriosis, there are many treatments that can help manage the pain and other symptoms. This is a condition I often see in my practice, and a supportive treatment plan may include:
Acupuncture
Anti-inflammatory support
Nutrition and digestive support
Movement
Hormonal balance support
Tailored supplementation
If you’re experiencing painful periods, pelvic pain, digestive symptoms, or other signs of endometriosis, you don’t have to navigate it alone. A personalized treatment plan can help address inflammation, support hormone balance, and improve overall quality of life.
