🍂 Fall Immune Tips 🍂
Fall is officially here, and we’re loving the crispness of those early mornings! Before long, the leaves will begin to change colour, creating a beautiful, picturesque landscape.
But as the seasons change, we also welcome cold and flu season. During this time of year, it’s important to keep healthy habits in mind that can support your overall well-being and immune system.
Here are 6 tips to support your immune system this fall:
Wash Your Hands! Wash your hands regularly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, or enough time to sing “Happy Birthday” twice! 🥳
Handwashing is especially important before eating or touching your face, and after coming into contact with frequently touched surfaces.
Practice Deep Breathing - Deep breathing can be a great way to relax and manage stress.
Find a comfortable position with both feet on the ground. Place one hand on your stomach and the other on your chest. Take a slow, deep breath and notice the movement of your hands.
If you’re having trouble, try lying down and focusing on keeping your breathing slow, natural, and relaxed rather than forcing it.
Manage Your Stress - Yoga, meditation, and other relaxation techniques can be helpful ways to manage stress.
Taking time to slow down, breathe, and care for yourself can have positive effects on your overall health and well-being.
Get Enough Sleep - Sleep plays an important role in supporting your immune system. It not only helps to restore your nervous system and help us recover from stress, but it is also when the immune system is most active. Sleep gives your body time to rest, recover, and recharge. If you’re not sleeping enough, you’re setting yourself up to have a poor defense.
Aim for a consistent sleep routine and make quality sleep a priority — especially during the colder months.
Be Mindful of Your Sugar Intake - Too much added sugar and highly processed food can make it harder to maintain a balanced, healthy diet. Sugar has also been shown to increase inflammation. When we are sick, that means it can worsen areas that are already inflamed due to infection, like the throat, sinuses, and lungs.Â
Instead, focus on nourishing your body with plenty of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats. 🍎🥦
Stay Socially Connected - Spending time with people you care about can support your overall well-being and help reduce stress.
Whether it’s catching up with a close friend, spending time with family, or enjoying a good laugh together, meaningful social connections can be a wonderful part of staying healthy and happy.
This fall, remember that small, healthy habits can add up! Take care of yourself, get plenty of rest, stay connected, and enjoy everything this beautiful season has to offer. 🧡
